South West Family Violence Training Update
Barwon South West
now has a team of qualified trainers to deliver family violence (FV) training
across the region. The trainers have been trained by the Domestic Violence
Resource Centre (DVRC).
1.
Common Risk Assessment Framework (CRAF):
This is the recommended state-wide minimum requirement for identifying
family violence.
A certificate of participation is provided.
The training, with handouts and local referral
information covers -
·
shared understanding of family violence
(including the impact of family violence);
·
use of ‘trigger’ questions to identify family
violence;
·
safety planning;
·
information sharing and effective referral.
The FREE
Level 1: “Identifying Family Violence” training takes place in different parts
of the region and morning or afternoon tea is provided. Any member of staff
working in any way with FV is welcome to attend.
2.
Recognizing and Responding to Family
Violence:
This is a more
thorough one day training, using a model provided by the Domestic Violence
Resource Centre (Vic). It incorporates use of the new ‘Common Risk
Assessment Framework’ (CRAF).
A certificate of
participation provided.
This level is
designed to support staff working with women and children who may be
experiencing family violence.
This training aims to provide introductory family violence awareness
and guidance to practitioners in a range of services across the region.
The course we provide covers the following -

Common beliefs about domestic violence
§
A better framework
§
What makes it difficult to leave a violent partner?
§
Indicators
§
Asking questions
§
Responding to disclosures
§
Risk assessment and safety planning (CRAF)
§
Best practice principles
