Introduction
The Men's Referral Service is an anonymous and confidential Victorian telephone service provided for men by men. It provides a central point of contact for men who want to stop their violent or abusive behaviour towards their family members, but are not sure how or where to go for assistance.
Such behaviour may include physical, psychological, emotional, verbal, economic, social or sexual abuse, as well as the use of male privilege.
If You Are Male and You Are
· Getting frustrated and exploding
· Being abusive to your family
· Feeling angry with the people you care about most
· Using violence in the home
· Feeling fearful or confused
· Concerned about the effect of your behaviour on your children
And If You Want to Do Something About It
This is a place that you can call for free and confidential assistance.
Women
Many women also call the Men's Referral Service seeking information and help for their male partner, husband, relative or friend. Women who call the service are affirmed in their decision to seek help, reassured that they are not responsible for the violence or abuse that they are experiencing, and are given information about sources of support for themselves.
Agencies and Human Services Professionals
Many workers across a range of human services and other sectors also phone the Men’s Referral Service, to seek advice on how and where to refer male clients who are using violence.
No To Violence Standards
The Men's Referral Service also endorses the No To Violence Standards for running men’s behaviour change groups with men who have used violence towards family members.
